Carlsberg 'Probably 'not' the best beer in the world'

What is it?

In April 2019 Carlsberg started to post some strange things - re tweeting negative comments about their own beer?! One example being "carlsberg tastes like stale breadsticks". Why? This was all part of a bigger picture - a new brew! Launched along side a new ad campaign - making fun of its 30 year old slogan - 'Probably the best beer in the world'. Now 'Probably 'not' the best beer in the world. So we changed it'. Carlsberg U.K.'s VP marketing, Liam Newton, says in a statement: "At Carlsberg UK, we lost our way. We focused on brewing quantity, not quality; we became one of the cheapest, not the best. In order to live up to our promise of being ‘probably the best beer in the world’, we had to start again."

Why do we love it?

Carlsberg was not afraid to make fun of itself! This honest campaign grabbed headlines and is sure to get Carlsberg sceptics to give the beer another try.
