Burger King. Forever pushing marketing boundaries!

Burger King. Forever pushing marketing boundaries!

Leading the risk taking game!

At the end of 2018, same-store sales at Burger King were up by 1.7 percent compared to last year, and restaurant growth (net unit count growth) increased by 6 percent, as reported during a recent earnings call with parent company Restaurant Brands International (RBI).

Could this be down to some of the unique marketing tactics emplyed by the brand? Burger King is leading the way in creative marketing, which is why its a brand we LOVE!

Here are our top 5 Burger King marketing stunts!

1. #eatlikeandy

Launched during the Super Bowl, this bemusing advert quite simply showed Andy Warhol eating a Burger King. Burger King’s global CMO Fernando Machado said the ad “truly elevates the Whopper to its iconic stature”.

The ad was both loved and hated but either way, people were talking!

2. The Whopper de tour

Pure genius! The campaign won the brand 2 million app downloads in 48 hours with 150,000 one-cent Whoppers being redeemed. It pays to be bold!

3. The constant trolling of McDonald's!

Burger King Vs. McDonald's - an on going war! With each brand needing to get more and more creative with every poke. Burger King's latest jab had the 'Big Mac' taking over the whole menu!

Another favourite - McDonald's halloween prank!

4. One of their oldest campaigns, proving they have been nailing it for years - The Whopper freak out!

The brief from Burger King for their 50th anniversary - “to tell people and prove that the Whopper was still America’s favorite. That was the brief within the 50th anniversary brief.”

Customer reactions prooved that was correct!

5. Our final stroke of genius from Burger King kept it super simple!

The offical brand page started liking influencers old tweets on twitter. This created confusion and intregue and the influencers started to react.

This activity generated quite a bit of social media hype. Even more so when Burger King revealed why it was doing what it was doing...

Simple but brilliant. In fact all of Burger Kings greatest work is not over complicated. The ideas seem to follow a simple formular; be creative, don't take marketing or your own brand too seriously and above all - Take risks!
